MediaTek Releases Kompanio 1300T, 5G Chip for Tablets and Chromebooks


Semiconductor component manufacturer MediaTek has launched its latest System-on-Chip (SoC), the Kompanio 1300T. The SoC is the successor of the Kompanio 820 which was announced last November 2020. Instead of smartphones, the chipset, which is manufactured with 6 nm fabrication technology, is specifically designed for Chromebook tablets and laptops, which are equipped with 5G connection support. General Manager of Intelligent Multimedia Business Unit MediaTek, PC Tseng said Kompanio 1300T is here to meet consumer needs for tablet devices that are currently increasing.

Tseng said that these devices are now widely used to enjoy entertainment content and carry out activities, such as school or study, remotely. "Our Kompanio chips enable manufacturers to design lightweight tablets and personal computing products with powerful performance and long battery life.Hardware-wise, the Kompanio 1300T SoC is equipped with an eight-core processor (CPU), consisting of ARM Cortex-A55 and Cortex-A78 CPUs. The graphics processor (GPU) relies on the ARM Mali-G77 MC9.

This chipset also supports 5G connectivity in the sub-6 GHz spectrum with 5G-2CA support and Dual 5G SIM. There are also 5G Elevator Mode and 5G HSR Mode features that allow users to enjoy high-speed connectivity in various applications, as well as 5G UltraSave to save power consumption when connected to 5G.

Other specifications include support for the screen with a 2.5K resolution with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, MiraVision color technology, and HDR10 +, a 108 MP camera, Voice on Wakeup (VoW), HyperEngine 3.0, and WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. For availability, the Kompanio 1300T SoC will be installed on a number of new tablets and Chromebooks launched this year. Reportedly, one of these tablets is the Honor V7 Pro which will launch in mid-August.
