Google Has Launched Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Smartphones

After revealing the design last August, Google this week launched its newest flagship smartphone duo, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, in a virtual event held on Wednesday (20/10/2021) early morning WIB. One of the most interesting things about the successor to the Pixel 5 is its internal components. Instead of Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips as before, the two new Pixel phones are powered by Google's own SoC, Google Tensor. The chip has eight processor cores (CPU) with speeds up to 2.8 GHz, combined with an ARM Mali-G78 graphics processor (GPU).

With this Tensor, Google claims the CPU performance of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is 80 percent higher than its predecessor, and 370 percent faster in the GPU aspect. Google's SVP of Devices and Services, Rick Osterloh, said that Tensor was the biggest hardware innovation in the company's history. "This is also a testament to our years of hard work in AI, as well as our experience in the semiconductor sector," Osterloh said at the launch event.

The design of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also now looks fresher. On the back, both phones now come with a rectangular camera module, aka the black "Camera Bar" that runs horizontally from edge to edge.

Google Pixel 6 Specifications

The Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with Full HD Plus resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. At the top center, there is an 8 MP (f/2.0) selfie camera that is loaded in a punch hole module. On the back, there are also two cameras consisting of a 50 MP main camera (f/1.9, OIS) and a 12 MP ultrawide camera (f/2.2).

Google claims the phone's main camera is capable of absorbing 150 percent more light and producing night mode photos, aka Night Sight, which are brighter than the cameras on previous generations of Pixel phones. In addition to the Tensor chip, the Pixel 6 is equipped with an 8 GB RAM configuration and two internal memory options, namely 128 GB and 256 GB. The battery has a capacity of 4,615 mAh and supports 30W fast charging.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Specifications

The Pixel 6 Pro has a slightly wider LTPO AMOLED screen than its sibling, which is 6.7 inches with QHD Plus resolution. The screen refresh rate is also higher, which is 120 Hz, and is claimed to be able to adjust to the content displayed to save power. The Pixel 6 Pro is equipped with an 11.1 MP (f/2.2) selfie camera which is also contained in a punch hole module at the top center of the cellphone screen. The camera on the back is similar to the Pixel 6. However, the Pro variant has one extra camera, namely a 48 MP telephoto camera (f/3.5, OIS) which has optical zoom capabilities of up to 4x. In terms of memory, the Pixel 6 Pro is powered by 12 GB of RAM and three choices of internal memory, namely 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB.

The battery is also bigger than the regular Pixel 6 at 5,003 mAh. However, the fast charging technology is still the same, which is 30W. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are both equipped with the Titan M2 security chip to store credential information, as well as the Security Hub to check and manage the phone's overall security system.
